Investment Process

Spartan’s investment process is best represented by the diagram below. We take a team approach to generating, analyzing and selecting new ideas. This involves constant interaction and collaboration within the members of the investment team.

  1. Using proprietary software developed to assist in the analysis of trading opportunities, each trader provides input on new trading ideas based on their own market focus
  2. Each trading idea is then evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively by the CIO and the entire trading team before a decision is made
  3. For ideas that are implemented, the final position size and timing are subject to the CIO’s approval
  4. Trades that are implemented are monitored by two groups:
    1. our Investment Team, to see whether the trades’ risk/return attributes merit remaining in the trade and seeing when profit objectives have been met; and
    2. our Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, who looks at various risk parameters to ensure that the individual trade and the firm’s aggregate positions remain with our risk guidelines. See Managing Risk »

"HOMOIOI" This term, meaning peers or equals, is what Spartan men called themselves, referring to their equality of education, military training, service, lifestyle and discipline.
