Investment Process
Spartan’s investment process is best represented by the diagram below. We take a team approach to generating, analyzing and selecting new ideas. This involves constant interaction and collaboration within the members of the investment team.
- Using proprietary software developed to assist in the analysis of trading opportunities, each trader provides input on new trading ideas based on their own market focus
- Each trading idea is then evaluated quantitatively and qualitatively by the CIO and the entire trading team before a decision is made
- For ideas that are implemented, the final position size and timing are subject to the CIO’s approval
- Trades that are implemented are monitored by two groups:
- our Investment Team, to see whether the trades’ risk/return attributes merit remaining in the trade and seeing when profit objectives have been met; and
- our Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, who looks at various risk parameters to ensure that the individual trade and the firm’s aggregate positions remain with our risk guidelines. See Managing Risk »
This term, meaning peers or equals, is what Spartan men called themselves, referring to their equality of education, military training, service, lifestyle and discipline.
